Billing policy update
Clear failed-payment deadlines begin September 1
Published August 3, 2026 · Effective September 1, 2026
Metrly has published updated Terms of Service and a new plain-language Non-Payment Policy. The documents make recurring billing, cancellation, failed-payment notices, suspension, server deletion, backup deletion, and data retention more visible.
What changes
A first failed automatic payment begins a single timeline. Affected servers are powered off and suspended approximately 72 hours later. Seven calendar days after that first failure, unpaid affected servers and their data—including Metrly-hosted backups and snapshots—are permanently deleted. Later retries do not restart the deadlines.
The exact UTC deadlines and affected servers are displayed in the Metrly Console. Paying in full before deletion stops pending billing deletion. Paying after deletion restores billing eligibility but cannot recreate deleted servers or data.
What existing customers should do
- Review the Terms of Service and Non-Payment Policy.
- Confirm the primary email address on the account is valid and monitored.
- Keep a valid payment method and independent backups of data you cannot afford to lose.
- Use the payment-recovery article if a payment fails.
Metrly will not begin enforcement under this policy version before its September 1, 2026 effective date. Whether existing customers must affirmatively re-accept a future version will be determined based on the change and applicable law.
